so excited!

I've been wanting to find a race to run between  now & the Moab Second Half in the Fall. (Which I'm hoping to do. Oh Laurie...) Was hoping for a 5k or something this Spring, to get ready for the half marathon.
I'm all excited tonight because I think I've found it! The Salt Lake City Marathon is held in April, and they hold a 5k that day also. (It's on April 16th to be exact) It sounds just about perfect. Lauren, you've gotta check this one out - the info is here. Here's an excerpt from their website:

New this year…the 5K will start and finish at The Gateway Plaza.  The new route can accommodate increased participation, plus the space and parking needed to accommodate much larger crowds. It also makes for a much more exciting 5K venue with thousands of spectators to cheer you on.

The "new" route will start adjacent to the fountain, then depart the Gateway traveling east on South Temple past the Energy Solutions Arena to State St.  Participants will then journey south on State for approximately .8 miles just past the Marriott City Center, turning west on Gallivan Ave.  There you’ll be able to refuel at an aid station before returning back… traveling east on 300 South and then north on State St, onto South Temple and back the Gateway.

The finish line will be filled with spirit, music and celebration. The last mile of the course is a lively Celebration Station, filled with crowds of well-wishers and more energy than you thought possible! Live bands will be performing on the entertainment stages, school cheering squads will be on hand and there will be plenty of fun diversions for participants, their families and friends.  Fun interactive exhibits for adults and children, and great food and great music will all be part of the festivities to help celebrate and cheer on the athletes.

All 5K participants will receive a race goody bag, a participant shirt, and entrance to the Quality of Life Expo.

There's this one that looked fun as well - it's just that it's in March & I'm thinking a couple extra weeks of training could be good after the way I've slacked the last month or so. :p Besides, starting & ending at the gateway, and being part of the big marathon day in a small way sounds awesome. And Kirsten's gonna run this one! (Lauren should come too. hint. hint.) So yeah - I'm all excited at the thought of running a race in April. A quick, fun one. Yeah - so excited!

And now I'm off to the gym, wanting to see where I'm at and getting into the swing of training again. Yay!

Hey maybe if you do the one in Salt Lake we could come down for the weekend and cheer you on! I'll be a beach ball by then but I used to cheer my mom on when she did races and they're pretty fun to watch! Good luck in your decision making!
